UT Austin College of Communication organizes live Super Bowl ad rating panel — For The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Advertising & Public Relations, I worked with professors to coordinate a Super Bowl ad rating panel.

I wrote stories for the UT Austin homepage and the Moody College homepage, and I successfully pitched the panel to KUT News 90.5 (Austin’s NPR station), KEYE-TV, KXAN, The Alcalde, The Daily Texan and Time Warner Cable News.

Consumers trust government eco-labels but ‘like’ corporate eco-labels, study finds Research from the University of Texas at Austin and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore found that green product marketers could build consumer trust by relying on government eco-labels, which consumers tend to trust more than corporate eco-labels. The corporate eco-labels, researchers found, work best for improving product and brand likeability for lower-cost products, such as milk or cereal.

I successfully pitched this research to The Guardian and NPR.


Job seekers: five ways employers are looking you over online — Brenda Berkelaar, associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin’s Moody College of Communication, found that hiring managers appear to be seeking employees who behave like politicians – carefully managing their online personality, endorsements, public image and private life.

New Assessment Could Reduce Learning Disorder Misdiagnoses Among Bilingual Children  I successfully pitched this research to Univision Austin, Ahora Sí and The Daily Texan.


McGarr Symposium on Sports and Society  I coordinated media relations for the Texas Program in Sports and Media’s McGarr Symposium on Sports and Society, titled “The Real Price of Winning at All Costs: A Discussion about Elite Cycling.”

The event was covered by KXAN, Fox 7 Austin, Associated Press, The Statesman, The Telegraph, Cycling News and The Alcalde.


I coordinated media outreach for UMKC’s NASA-funded Inventure University, a weeklong camp where Girl Scouts learn about engineering fields that have been traditionally dominated by men. The story was featured by KSHB-41 Action News, WDAF-TV4The Wednesday Sun and the American Society for Engineering Education’s First Bell.


I coordinated media outreach for a research and development collaboration between the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s School of Computing & Engineering and QM Power, a high-efficiency motor technology manufacturer.

QM Power was opening a new laboratory in Kansas City, Missouri’s Green Impact Zone. Proposed by U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II, the Green Impact Zone is a cooperative effort to strengthen neighborhoods, create jobs and improve energy efficiency in a 150-block area of Kansas City. I successfully pitched this story to MSN, The Kansas City Star, KCUR and The Wednesday Sun. I also co-produced this video.


UMKC attempts to break Guinness World Record for largest robot dance  To promote a new book robot at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, I worked with University Libraries, the Conservatory of Music & Dance and the Student Government Association to coordinate a robot dance. Kansas City’s mayor spoke at the event, which more than 658 people attended, unofficially breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest robot dance.

I successfully pitched this story to KMBC Kansas CityKSHB-41 Action NewsKCTV5 NewsThe Kansas City Star, the Library Journal and The Pitch Kansas City. I also helped produce a summary video and a highlight video.


Nuclear engineering field growing amid recession — I successfully pitched a story about two UMKC students who were selected for unusually lucrative Navy internships that provided five years of job security during the Great Recession. The story was featured by KSHB-41 Action News, WDAF-TV4 and The Wednesday Sun.


Cars of the future could allow drivers to simply enjoy the ride; UMKC professor’s U.S. Air Force research could produce vehicles with minds of their own Through a summer fellowship program at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), a professor in the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s School of Computing and Engineering designed and developed a prototype for driverless cars.

I successfully pitched this research to Wired, The Kansas City Star and The Wednesday Sun.
